Police: Liquor store clerk shoots, kills robber

Tampa Police say a liquor store clerk exchanged gunfire with two robbery suspects late Sunday night, killing one of them.

Dispatchers received a 911 call around 10:45 p.m. of gun shots coming from inside the Cut Rate Liquor Store at 3312 N. 15th Street.

When officers arrived at the store they discovered one person dead on the sidewalk near the store.

According to detectives, two people entered the store carrying a gun with the plan to commit an armed robbery. At some point they exchanged fire with the store clerk. The clerk was not injured, but one of the suspects was shot. The other suspect ran off and remains at large.

Police are still working to verify initial accounts the two subjects were attempting to commit an armed robbery.

The liquor store does have surveillance cameras. Officers are reviewing the video footage and speaking to several witnesses to confirm what exactly happened inside the store.

The named of the deceased suspect will be released after the next-of-kin has been notified.
