An unloaded gun was found in a backpack at Chamberlain High this morning, according to the Tampa Police Department.
The school, 9401 N. Boulevard in Tampa, was placed on lockdown around 8:55 a.m. while authorities searched the premises for other weapons after receiving a tip about the gun. The lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
Two students were arrested, and no other guns were found on campus.
The students arrested were a 19-year-old senior and a 15-year-old freshman. Both were charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, and disruption of a school function.
The senior had the unloaded handgun in his backpack, along with ammunition, police say. The freshman, police say, is the one who brought the gun to school.
