Police: Suspect knocked on door, asked for victim, shot and killed him

Lakeland Police Department is searching for the man responsible for shooting and killing a man at his front door in Lakeland on Monday night.

Police say they responded to a shooting at 940 Castle Way around 10:55 p.m. on Monday, July 25. When they arrived on scene, police found Johnathan "Jay" Charles-Pierre, 35, dead with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Witnesses told police that a black male knocked on the door of the home and pointed a handgun at him and demanded for Charles-Pierre to come to the door. Charles-Pierre came to the door with a handgun. The suspect shot the victim and as he fled the scene, he continued to shoot. The suspect was seen taking off in a green four-door vehicle. 

There were no other injuries.
