Fire at storage unit facility in Clearwater destroys 18 units

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire at a storage unit facility in Clearwater Monday night.

The Clearwater Fire and Rescue responded to a call of a fire in the 1400 block of North Myrtle Avenue a little after 9 p.m.

An official with the city of Clearwater said no injuries have been reported. A dozen nearby homes were asked to evacuate as a precaution until families were eventually allowed to go back in.

A total of 18 storage units were destroyed and multiple other units were damaged, the city official said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
