ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An elderly man was found dead in St. Petersburg by fire rescue on Wednesday.

Officials were responding to a fire at the home in the 5900 block of 13th Street North when they found the 74-year-old man dead. The call came in around 3:30 p.m.

They say it's unclear at this time how the man died. A caregiver who was in the home asleep at the time called 911 after waking up and smelling smoke, fire rescue says.

The caregiver was treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire is contained to a small area of the front living room at this time, according to fire rescue.

Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
