Body found in condo fire in Tarpon Springs, no information released on cause of fire or the death

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — A body was discovered in a burned condominium in Tarpon Springs late Friday night, authorities said.

Tarpon Springs police and fire rescue units responded to a report of a fire at 300 S. Florida Ave, unit 300 K, at the Sunset Shores Condominium complex at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, Tarpon Springs police Sgt. Robert Faugno said in a news release.

A resident at the complex called in the fire, telling the Tarpon Springs dispatcher fire was spotted pouring out of a window at a nearby condo unit.

Firefighters made entry to the condo to attack the fire. Once inside, they discovered a body.

The fire was brought under control, and damage was confined to the unit where the fire started.

The identity of the deceased person, and the cause of death is unknown at this time.

The Florida State Fire Marshal's Office is joining the Tarpon Springs police and fire departments in the fire investigation.

No further information was provided.
