Robbery and Homicide detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office arrested two people on suspicion of a homicide.
Jaritza Diaz, 24, and Christopher Lee Robertson II, 34, are accused of killing a business owner, Christopher Dykes, 54, in unincorporated St. Petersburg on the morning of August 28.
According to detectives, Dykes was discovered after an employee arrived and could not gain entry or locate the business owner. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Diaz and Robertson, as potential suspects in Dykes' murder. Both Diaz and Robertson were known to Dykes. Diaz was a former employee.
Diaz and Robertson reportedly fled to Homestead, Florida, where Miami-Dade Police detectives discovered they were staying in a hotel on South Dixie Highway. On Saturday, September 2nd, Pinellas officers were assisted by Miami-Dade detectives to execute a Grand Theft Auto warrant on Diaz.
While Diaz and Roberston were transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correction center in Miami-Dade county, Miami-Dade detectives executed a search warrant for the hotel in Homestead, Florida. The search warrant was successful in recovering evidence allegedly connecting Diaz and Robertson to Dykes' murder.
On Monday, Pinellas detectives obtained warrants for Diaz and Robertson on charges of First Degree Murder.
The investigation is still ongoing.
