A Pasco man is fighting for his life after suffering a medical episode. Deputies originally reported that his injuries were a result of a dog attack.

The Sheriff's Office and Animal Control responded to the scene of a home in the 8600 block of Paxton Dr. in Port Richey where the 42-year-old man was found in life-threatening condition.

The call came into dispatch at around 5:00 and detectives actively worked to investigate the surrounding circumstances.

Deputies initially reported that the man had been attacked by his own dog. They did, however, initially report, "It is unknown if the injuries are a result of exclusively the dog bites, or if the man had a pre-existing condition causing a medical complication."

He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and the dog was seized by animal control.

Later Wednesday evening, Pasco County Sheriff's Office released the following update:

"Preliminarily it appears the victim had a separate medical episode which caused his condition and the actual dog bites appear to be superficial."

The victim is still being treated at a local hospital.

According to County Animal Services, the dog is a 2-year-old black and white pit bull.
