The Suncoast Animal League is asking for donations to help dozens dogs and cats saved from horrible conditions in Puerto Rico.
Volunteers for the Palm Harbor animal shelter traveled to the island on Sunday. An anonymous donor offered use of a transport plane to fly around 125 cats and dogs back to the Tampa Bay area.
Living conditions in Puerto Rico remain grim weeks after Hurricane Maria hit on September 20. Power is still out across the island and may not be fully restored until mid-December.
The horrible conditions after the storm forced some people to abandon their pets. Animal shelters also lost their roofs during Maria.
Creative Sign Designs on Race Track Road is helping out the Suncoast Animal League by offering a large warehouse to shelter the dozens of Puerto Rican animals set to arrive on Tuesday.
The shelter needs donations of the following items:
- Dog food
- Cat food
- Water bowls
- Newspapers
- Towels
- Litter boxes
- Metal crates
- Paper towels
- Garbage bags
- Mops
- Buckets
- Cleaning supplies
- Dust pans
- Pump sprayers
- KennelSol
- Brooms
If you can help in any way, please you are asked to contact Suncoast Animal League by calling (727) 786-1330 or emailing rescue@suncoastanimalleague.org.
