A gas station clerk fought off a thief and now Hillsborough County deputies need your help finding the suspect.

“It just did not end up very well for the man that came in here, tried to fight the clerk,” Anthony Patterson said, after his co-worker was attacked early Sunday morning.

Deputies said a man went in to the Sunoco at 14516 N. 22nd St. before 6:00 a.m. demanding a money bag.

Deputies said the clerk and the suspect struggled for control of a baseball bat kept behind the counter. The thief ended up getting control of the bat. Detectives said the clerk stabbed the suspect in the stomach.

“I’m very glad and thankful that he didn’t get hurt at all because it could have ended up in a bad way for him,” Patterson said.

Deputies said the clerk went outside to get help from law enforcement. The suspect ran away with a paper bag full of cash.

The suspect has been identified as Daniel Dwayne Eubanks, 44. He’s between 5’8” and 5’10”, 180 to 200 lbs., bald and was last seen wearing jean shorts.

“I’ve never been in that situation myself but I imagine you just have to act in the moment really, go off of adrenaline cause, it could be a split second and somebody take your life,” Patterson said.

If you have any information about where Eubanks could be, call Crimestoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com. You could get a cash reward.
