A Walmart in Hernando County was evacuated after an explosion in the parking lot set a tractor-trailer on fire, deputies say.
Just after 5 a.m., a Hernando County Sheriff's deputy who was already stationed in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 13300 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville reportedly heard an explosion at the west end of the store.
The deputy went to investigate and saw three tractor-trailers, the one in the middle on fire.
The deputy quickly checked the vehicles and found and safely removed the only occupant from one of the other two vehicles.
According to the sheriff's office, the three tractor-trailers were parked very close to the building, so the store was evacuated. When fire crews arrived, the fire had spread to the other two vehicles as well.
The fire caused the total loss of two semi-trucks and two exposed empty trailers.
According to the driver of the first semi-truck, he just pulled into the loading dock, went inside, and heard an explosion.
The fire has since been extinguished and the store is back open.
Officials say there were no injuries as a result of the explosion/fire. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
