Tampa police recovered a body found in water at Port Tampa, a shipping and industrial area east of downtown Tampa.

The body, only described as that of a man, was found in water near Guy N. Verger Boulevard and Barge Avenue.

According to Tampa police, port workers saw someone in the water and assumed the individual was swimming. When they saw the person out there minutes later, they took a closer look and discovered it was a body floating in the water.

"There's numerous cases," Tampa police spokesman Eddy Durkin said. "You want to look if there's any missing persons cases that we have. You want to look at any boating accidents we may have had, so we're looking at that right now. We're getting with local agencies right now to see if there's any missing persons that may match (the) subject's description."

No further information was released.
