Officials say one person was killed and another was injured after an apartment building fire in St. Petersburg Thursday morning.
Firefighters were called to the area near Coquina Key Drive SE around 5 a.m. after reports of heavy smoke coming from inside the gated community, Waterside at Coquina Key.

Other nearby residents were evacuated as smoke filled the apartment building. There are several fire engines still in the vicinity and people are asked to keep their distance from the charred building.
The person who was injured in the fire has been transported to a local hospital with second and third-degree burns.

Firefighters are still putting out hot spots. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
